Somewhere in Alabama…

November 26, 2008

Hey everyone!

So hello again. It hasn’t been too long, but so much has happened. I flew out on Monday to get into the field. I am not in Atlanta though, I am actually in Alabama. We flew in and met the Assistants to the President and they told us that we weren’t even going to the mission home, we were going straight out “into the country” as one of them put it. I wasn’t sure how I felt about that. But we took our stuff in the car and then they started putting the address into the GPS and that is when I found out that these guys had never even been out here before! Then they pulled it up on the GPS, the estimated time was 2.5 hours from then. I was getting more scared. Then I found out that it is actually in Alabama, not Georgia anymore. The assistants were excited because they had never been in Alabama before. So we drove and drove. Then when we got “there” we went over this hill, and you could see just fields and fields of houses that all looked exactly the same. Then they told us that this was the biggest projects that they had seen. So this just made me even more nervous. Then we went to go to the church building but we couldn’t find it, and we were in the middle of a neighborhood, so we looked around forever, but eventually had to call the missionaries that were there. They directed us to their house and just said that the church house was “kind’a hard to find”, they said it was “secret”. So anyway we got the apartment and got my new companion. His name is Elder Kwarteng (pronounced “carton”). He is from Ghana, Africa. He is pretty cool though, he is sometimes hard to understand (especially when we are on our bikes, conversations are almost impossible). But it isn’t as hard as some of the people here.

Final Week In MTC!

November 21, 2008

Hey everyone!

It has been a roller coaster week. I have good news, I got my new mission call today. I won’t tell you right now though, I will call you later tonight and tell you in person. But I am actually pretty excited, and the best part is that I am leaving on Monday, so I don’t have to stay in the MTC any longer anymore. That is a nice relief, I am ready to go back out into the real world. And I am excited to eat some real food again too. I am getting excited about my new place, I am starting to wonder what it will be like, since I have never been there before. I am hoping that maybe I will get to have taco bell at least one time before I leave for 2 years, its funny, but that is what I have wanted for so long. Taco bell, and also some pizza from a pizza hut or something. The cool thing is that we get pizza tonight! I am really excited about that, but it is papa johns, so not as good as some other places out there.

So, what a week…

Note from Julie:  This message may seem a bit fragmented.  I happened to be online when Alex was emailing today and since he couldn’t seem to think of much to say, we traded several emails back and forth.   He wanted people to know what he said so I have compiled his messages together for people to read.

November 14, 2009

So what a week. This one was a little bit longer than most.  Bad news first… I didn’t get my flightplans today which isn’t good news at all. Everyone else got them today except the 5 of us that are going to Belgium.  So I don’t know what that means, except that we might be delayed in leaving. It is also weird because our passports still haven’t come back to us yet. I am going to talk to the people at the travel office tonight and see what is up with my situation. I am ok,  although I was really excited. But this other kid is super mad about it. I am thinking that it might be a problem with our visas because we got our french visas from San Francisco late too. I guess we will find out. I hope I am not here for too much longer, but there are these other kids on our floor that have been here for 16 weeks now and still waiting for their visas for mongolia. I really hope something like that [doesn’t] happen to me.  It is sort of comforting that belgium and Netherlands are slightly more civilized than mongolia. But who knows.

MTC week 7 ( it think)

November 7, 2009

Dear family,

Ok, sorry about the late email, the computers were down for a while (still are actually) in the lab we usually use, so were had to go to another one but that one was packed because so many people were in there since the other computers were down.

Anyway, it has been a tough week, very long and slow. I am getting very close to leaving, only 17 days I think I just heard someone say, but I am not sure for certain. Well, I should be getting my tickets and flight plans within the next week or week and a half, then I will know exactly when I am leaving. I am so ready to leave. It has been fun here, and I am sure it is far more relaxing then in the field, but I just don’t know if I can handle it a whole bunch longer.
