Mons Madness

January 26, 2009

Hey everyone!

So this week was the week of what we called mons madness or mons massacre, or mons melee. The name got changed a lot between people, but the important thing is that we had about 10 missionaries that came from the surrounding area to spend time here in Mons. They came in on Thursday and spent the night, then we switched companions for the day and went out for a whole day of contacting. It was pretty successful and we really enjoyed it. The weather was horrible, it was pouring down rain and it was super windy, almost blowing us over at times. But we met a lot of people, and we got about 40 phone numbers to call back people with. Then everyone left on Saturday morning.

Mons, We walked and walked…

January 19, 2009

Hello

It has been a fast but rough week this week. My legs are about ready to fall off. It has been a week full of lots of travel, the only problem is that it has all been on foot. The buses have been crazy the past week or so and so we have had to walk to some far off places this week. It has been good I guess, but it is frustrating that we never know what is going on. Last friday we got pretty much nothing done because the bus drivers finally went on strike, so there were NO buses that day. That was a long day that sadly got pretty much wasted. We had to go to Charleroi, Belgium in the morning, so we got a ride from our landlady, Sister Egbert to the gare at 7:00 am and then took a train to Charleroi, it is about 30 minutes away. Then we were there for a while, and got a train back at about 1:00. We waited until about 2:30 and then assumed that the buses were never coming since about 6 or 7 buses should have come in that time, so we walked home from the Mons Gare to our apartment which is a half hour walk. Then we ate and unpacked our bags, but then had to go back into Mons, which takes another 30 minutes on foot, then to our next rendezvous which was another 15. By then it was time to go back to the gare to get a ride with a member to thier house. As you can see the time started to really add up and we didnt have much time for anything, so that was annoying. But it looks like everything is working all right now.

Investigator from Rwanda

January 12, 2009

So this week was sooo FAST,

I wanted to put some exclamation points on the end of that statement but I cant seem to find them anywhere on this keyboard. IDK who designed the keyboards here in Belgium but it must have been someone that didn’t care very much because they didn’t put a lot of effort into it. Every time I make a period, I have to hold the shift key because it shares the key with the semicolon but the semicolon is the default for some reason and the period is the shift one. Now how often have you seen a French guy use a semicolon. I would dare say never. Again, an exclamation point would be handy here but I cant find it. So I don’t know why they don’t switch it so that the period is the default thing and the semicolon is the shift one. I mean you have to use a period at the end of EVERY sentence. Oh and the @ sign is there but to the knowledge of all 4 of us it is impossible to access. We see it on the keyboard and it shares the button that makes the à thing, but when you shift click it, it makes the 0, so no one can figure out how to get it. So we have to copy and paste the at symbol. Continue reading ‘Investigator from Rwanda’

Staying in Mons…

January 5, 2009

Hello again,

So It is transfers this week and I just got the news that I am staying. So nothing is changing for me right now which is nice. I like it here in Mons and with my companion. The other Elders are changing though. Elder Kent (whom it sounds like you talk with his mom on missionary moms) is staying and getting a new companion. His companion right now, Elder Peterson is leaving to France. So it wont be changing a lot but a little bit, and we will have a new person too that will come on Wednesday.

Our land-lady sister Egbert got back on Saturday. So today she is at work and will hopefully get the mail today and bring home my Christmas package, plus any other mail that I had. We actually had quite an experience this morning with her house flooding. There was water everywhere! It was crazy, I guess the toilet flooded and  when we went down there, there was water everywhere. We stopped the flooding and got the water soaked up but it took forever.
