Visit from Elder Dallin H. Oaks

February 23, 2009

Hey again,

So sorry about this whole email thing last week. The email site […] does stupid things from time to time. Then to make matters worse you barely get any time at all to actually do emails.

Well this week the big news was that yesterday we got to meet Elder Dallin H. Oaks of the Quorum of the 12 apostles. It was very cool. Cecile was supposed to come but her son got sick so she didn’t. Tyler, another investigator we have was able to talk to him and it was very cool. Elder Oaks put his hand on his shoulder and testified to him and told him to get baptized. It was very cool. Tyler is a friend of one of the American families in the ward. He is progressing very fast. He said he wanted to talk about baptism on Thursday which is the next time we are going to meet him. I am very excited.

Technical Difficulties

There was only a short one sentence email from Elder Curtis today indicating that they were having technical difficulties with their email and he lost his email and was out of time.  We will have to wait until next week.

Everything is Great…

February 9, 2009

Hello all,

So another week in Mons. I really like Mons, I would be perfectly fine with staying here my whole mission. I really  love this place. I have luckily had the opportunity to visit a lot of other places around here and I just love Mons. The other place I have really enjoyed is Lille, France. I actually went there again this week. I got my legality almost finished, I only have to go back one time more I think, maybe twice. This time I got to spend quite a while there with the timing of how everything worked out. It is so much different than Belgium, it is quite funny. It is weird how you don’t see any of the crossover in culture. You don’t see very many friteries like here in Belgium. [In Lille] there are seriously 4 on every corner. I went to one of the best ones for lunch today in fact. It was so good. They have tons of these sauces and today I got samouri which is like spicy fry sauce, its so good.

Happy Groundhog Day from Mons

February 2, 2009

Hey everyone!

So it was the fastest week since I have been here, I honestly cant believe that I am writing again. Sadly we haven’t been teaching this week a bunch because it has been so crazy. I have no clue what happened to last Monday, and I cant remember what happened on Tuesday. But I do remember that on Wednesday I was on an exchange with Elder Milliken, so we were together for the day. Well it didn’t go exactly as planned. He got something stuck in his through so we had to go to the hospital here. Wow I never want to get sick here. This is the first time that I think I realized the true effects of socialism. This was the most laid back emergency room ever! They sent us back and forth for 30 minutes to do paperwork. Then finally we got a room. They told us to wait in there. So when we went in the room there was blood on the window. It wasn’t  little splatter either. It looked like someone exploded, and idk, I guess they didn’t bother wiping it up or anything. Then when the doctor came he took a popsicle stick to hold his tongue down and look in his through. He said he didn’t see anything so he would give him a box of pills to take and if it was still stuck after 3 days then to come back. We were out of there about 4 minutes after the doctor finally showed up. But the problem wasn’t fixed. Luckily we remembered that someone in the ward is a doctor on the American base, so we called him up and went to get him to check it out. He did a lot better and luckily everything is ok now. It pretty much killed the day though.
